With the commitment to sensitize local masses for the protection of environment, NCPC organized ‘National Environment Mela’ on March 10, 2018 at Ayub National Park, Rawalpindi in collaboration with Army Heritage Foundation (AHF), JICA Alumni Association of Pakistan (JAAP), Pakistan Academy of Family Physicians (PAFP) and in partnership with Pak EPA and Punjab EPD’s. This event followed a theme of “One Earth, One Family” for the noble cause of environmental awareness. Various schools, colleges, universities and organizations (social & environmental) displayed their stalls.
Syed Mahmood Nasir (IG Forests: Ministry of Climate Change), Mr. Khalid Javaid (Commissioner FBR), Ms. Farzana Altaf (DG: PAK EPA), Dr. Manzoor Ahmad (President PAFP), Dr. Jawed Ali Khan (Country Director: UN Habitat:, Mr. Masood Ahmad (Deputy Director: Secondary Education Officer), Col. ® Imran (Army Heritage Foundation), Dr. Saleem Janjua (Head of Policy Division – Urban Development of Centre of Excellence for China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CoE-CPEC), Dr. Pervez (HDIP), Chairman’s and HOD’s of universities.
Universities from different provinces of Pakistan participated with full zeal i.e. Punjab University Lahore, Arid Agriculture University Faisalabad, Pakistan Forest Institute Peshawar, International Islamic University Islamabad, National University of Science and Technology Islamabad, Bahria University Islamabad, PMAS Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi, University of Engineering and Technology Taxila, Fatima Jinnah Women University, and Pakistan Institute of Development Economics Islamabad. Rawalpindi Medical College and Dr. Rashad Degree College from Khaur was also part of the event. A large number of students from schools of twin cities participated with their message of protection of environment via their models, charts and posters.
Organizations from public and private sector including World Wildlife Fund (WWF), Silk Route, Renewable and Alternative Energy Association of Pakistan (REAP), Sahil, Edcons, Pakistan Sweet Homes, Attock Sahara Foundation, JICA Alumni Association of Pakistan [JAAP], Al Nemat Welfare Foundation, The Plantpups, HDF, IRM, PAFP, Friends of Environment also participated in.
And the tempting part was its food stalls. A true color of Mela was portrayed by performances and activities on stage like cultural performances, singing competitions, debate competitions, tableaus, quiz competition etc. General public especially children were fascinated by bear show, monkey show, camel ride and games etc. Under the Banner of Green Wall, free of cost plants were distributed to general public. Green promise was signed by guests to show their commitment towards protection of environment. All these represent the true colors of Mela. Solar Cooking was the biggest attraction for people. They enjoyed the food from solar cooking.
